Born and raised in rural Indiana. Steve has written over 500 poems. Often asked, what am I? My response has always been, I grew up in an Amish community attended Wesleyan, Mennonite, and Methodist churches. Went to a Brethren College, then married a Lutheran. Favorite authors, discovered by coincidence after I starting writing, are Richard Bach and Og Mandino. Great respect for Norman Vincent Peale as well. How long does a poem take to create? For me, a typical poem is written in under five minutes. I can go months in between writing a poem; but I can also write three to four poems in a matter of minutes. I wait for the "nudge" or the inspiration; then sit back and watch the pen and hand glide across the paper. I do not read poetry per se, nor do I understand the "technicals" of poetry; I simply write down the words as they come to me. "I like my poems the best because I didn't write them" - Emerson John 4:48 - "Except ye see signs, ye will not believe" |
